When I called up McKenzie M. to run my idea past her, she didn’t hesitate, “Let’s do it!, she said. She actually had talked about starting a western lifestyle/fashion blog years ago and we casually came up with a bunch of cheesy names and laughed, and that was it. “Spurs And Stilettos” was never meant to be, I guess. Fast forward a few years, and “The Bear and the Bird” is born. We are life long friends who share a name and many of the same passions. We both were raised in the quarter horse world, and between us we have shown in cutting, working cow horse, reining, and all-around events. A majority of our life is centered around horses, horse showing, and the lifestyle that goes along with it. We also share a love for travel, music, shopping, and entertainment. Though alike in many ways, we each bring a unique perspective and what I think (and hope) people will enjoy about our blog, is our differences.
McKenzie M. “Bird” is definitely the fashionista of the two of us, and I know that in between tales from her everyday life, she will convince many of you to buy that shirt or try a new brand of moisturizer. Take it from the girl who in 1992 made her mom buy her those totally rad black Rockies with white stripes just because the other McKenzie had ’em. And as I write this, I’m wearing the grey Converse that looked so cool on her the last time we were together. Seriously, she’s been one of my style idols since I was old enough to care. And I’m sure you’ll love to hear what she’s into at any given moment.
I am excited, because, honestly, I miss writing. I wrote a lot as a middle school English teacher, never assigning my students a writing project I didn’t participate in myself. Every once in a while, my students would chuckle softly at what I shared with them. So…obviously, I have some major comedic writing talent, right? Maybe, maybe not, but I do have a pretty entertaining life. And I’m going to write about it..so there.
That’s our story; we really have no huge plans or goals. Just to have fun, create something we are proud of, and celebrate our amazing friendship and the crazy rascals we share our lives with. Read and enjoy!
