Well, we are back in Fort Worth, Texas for the final leg of the NCHA Triple Crown Aged Event, The NCHA Summer Spectacular. This is always a fun show because of the youth events that are held in conjunction to the regular aged event. I’ll tell you, there is nothing more precious than seeing those smaller kiddos show a cutting horse. Actually, watching the youth could teach us big kids a thing or two about showing. They are truly something else! I can’t wait to watch my nieces Emery and Harper one day! Although, watching some of the parents and family of these kids, I just know I would be a nervous wreak!!! This past Monday, I went along with my mom to watch the Jr. Youth 1st Go (kids 14 and under) and it was a packed house! I love seeing all the camaraderie between the contestants (that should also teach us a thing or two). Everyone cheering for everyone, ear to ear grins, and even with a disappointing run, a big bear hug to their horse and a look of “just happy to be here”. You will not want to miss the Youth Grand Entry as well as both the Jr. and Sr. Youth finals on Thursday July 24th!
Since we are in Fort Worth a lot for our horse events throughout the year, it’s easy to stay in the same routine of restaurants, but I always keep my eyes and ears out on all the new places around town. Max’s Wine Dive isn’t a brand new spot, but has only been open about a year in the West 7th district. This is a great spot for comfort food and for all those winos out there, this is the place for you (and me)! The staff is super friendly and I suggest asking your waiter/waitress to suggest a tasting of a few of the many yummy dishes on the menu. The PB&J wings are to die for!! On Mondays, they have a 15% off special and Saturdays and Sundays- a fantastic brunch menu!!
It’s no secret that I have a slight sushi obsession, my usual “go to” sushi hot spot is Blue Sushi, but one of my favorite spots that many of you may not know about is Piranha Killer Sushi downtown Fort Worth. This quaint little spot delivers some of the best rolls and sashimi dishes in the area. The Marry Me Roll and the Crunchy Tuna top my list and the Seared Albacore Tuna is divine!! I usually order 2 orders for myself!!!
I think everyone loves Mexican food and if you don’t, well that’s your problem. The Original Mexican Eats Cafe has been a staple of Fort Worth for years and has some of the best old fashion Tex-Mex! Honestly, it’s Mexican food so you can’t go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu! I’ll be sure and keep all of you informed on any new spots that I discover or even rediscover and help you get out of your dining routine! Until then…….Bon Appetit!!!
Well there is much much more cutting excitement left! If you can’t make it to watch the show live, catch it online! Monday July 28th is not only my dad’s birthday, but also the 1st annual Cut and Duck benefit roping! The roping benefits the NCHA Foundation and will be quite the event! Complimentary burgers and beer- well that’s the recipe for some good watchin!!! Festivities kick off at 6 pm!!!
Remember……Take a little time to enjoy Fort Worth!!!
