It’s a unique group that calls themselves “haulers”. For those unfamiliar with the term it refers to the group of cutters that haul their horses from show to show throughout the year, usually with the goal of winning a World Championship or qualifying for the NCHA World Finals held in Ft. Worth in December. The west coast group of haulers is a pretty wild and rowdy crowd, and one of the wildest gals in this crew is Trayler Baybe.
Trayler Baybe has become the unlikely mascot of the west coast haulers as she travels around the country; sort of the Flat Stanley of the cutting world. She may be young, but she seems to hang with the best of them. The haulers have taken it upon themselves to raise her as they see fit, posting photos along the way, and the results are often hilarious. I have enjoyed following Trayler Baybe’s adventures on her Facebook page for a while now, so I thought I’d find out a little bit about her history.
Trayler Baybe was “adopted” in 2009 from a Napa, California Walmart by her original mom Sarah Bertoli and soon found herself strapped into a Baby Bjorn, attached to the breast collar of Deb Fonsen’s horse Dollar and heading to the herd. The infamous McAurther Bridleless Cutting was her show pen debut, and she preformed with 7 of her siblings and Octomom, Tracy Pasquini. Little did this sweet baby know what a long and winding road was ahead. By the way, she won the cutting!
Trayler Baybe spent some time moving from trailer to trailer and also spent much of her early formative years at Haefner Ranch, also in California. Rumor has it she also spent some time at the Reno Rodeo hanging out with team ropers and other unsavory characters. I’m kidding…kinda.
Anyways, she started drinking a lot of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and partying a bit too hard. She was also freaking out the grand children, so her next mother, Dedee McWhorter, hid her in David Booth’s trailer along with a note reading “Take Good Care of Me”. Well, David wasn’t quite ready for parenthood, and soon passed her on to Ed and Shelley Wold.
From there, Trayler Baybe has had many adoptive parents, but has yet to mend her wild ways. This year she has traveled the country with her hauling buddies; she’s been everywhere from Colorado to New Mexico to Mississippi with notorious trouble makers like Dawn Chapman, Michelle LeMaster, and Kathy Bro. I hear she’s currently taking a long “spa” vacation (similar to the ones Lindsay Lohan is always taking) and will be back for the Wine Country Cutting in Paso Robles, California.
We’ll all say our prayers for Trayler Baybe as she finishes out the hauling year. She’s done a lot of livin’ in her short life. There’s a few things you can learn from following the (mis)Adventures of Trayler Baybe: 1-It’s hard work raising a baby on the road-it takes a village. 2-Haulers be crazy. 3-And they also are a whole lot of fun! Keep your eye out for Trayler Baybe on the hauling trail or follow along with the fun on her Facebook Page!
